Travelling exhibition at mc2 – “A place changed by buildings”

From 9 February to 9 March the stands of the travelling exhibition “A place Changed by Buildings”, which are artistically and richly designed according to their content, will be located in the mc2 Centre of Interior and Specialties, at 68a Krasta Street, Riga. Exhibition stands are a great platform to attract public attention and raise awareness of complex construction processes and their impact on everyday life.

During its long-term operation, the many-branched company SIA “Reaton”, which includes mc2 Centre of Interior and Specialties, has implemented measures to increase the energy efficiency of several objects. In order to raise the issues about environmental protection problems and solutions, SIA “Reaton” supports the importance of the travelling exhibition and is involved in processes that promote public awareness.

What stories can be seen and read in the exhibition?

A special place in the exhibition is devoted to the innovations of wooden construction technologies and the skills of Latvian specialists required for working with them. The ambitious and constructively unique volume of Jelgava open-air stage Mītava was created by architects Vents Grietēns, Igate Būve and IKTK, when implementing the order of Jelgava Municipality. In terms of volume, but not in terms of innovation, there is a smaller modern wooden private house, which confirms the competitiveness of wood as a construction material in the private sector. This has been implemented by architect Agnis Lukšēvics, but the structures were created by ICT. At Krievu sala company A.C.B. has protected the environment from pollution by building a large-scale wind-suppressing fence. It is an innovative technology that has travelled to Latvia from Canada.

The centre of Liepāja has undergone positive changes, as the tram bridge over the canal has become more durable, beautiful and safer, with the works being managed by company “Rīgas tilti”, attracting CTB and other builders. The intelligent engineering solutions company Fima has also made its intellectual contribution to the improvement of the Liepāja urban environment by modernising the railway infrastructure of the Liepāja economic area. It may seem that tennis and good architecture have nothing in common. In fact, these things are related, if the goal is to create a bright, aesthetic training and competition base for sports, as evidenced at the modernised indoor tennis courts of Lielupe.

A significant part of work has been performed with the careful participation and supervision of “Riga rent” specialists. Not only Latvian tennis stars, who carry the country’s name in the world will train here, but international competitions will also take place in this base. One of the stands of the exhibition is dedicated to the reconstruction of the Mežaparks stage. This object will be visited by people from all over the world, who will study the ambitious, curved structure, but Riga will have acquired a unique open-air stage, the project of which has been developed by architects Austris Mailītis and Juris Poga, but the client of which is Riga City Council Department of Property.

The charm of restored historic buildings is special in all its manifestations, but if the volume created by a famous architect is also restored, those who benefit are the residents and guests of the city. Take a look at the stand, where you can see Liepāja Art Hotel Roma, which was built in 1882 according to the project of architect Paul Max Bertschy. Riga is an attractive place for foreign investors, one of the goals of which is to create a contribution to the urban environment and the segment of office buildings with carefully considered projects. Eastnine AB will build a business centre at Kr. Valdemāra Street, mostly using wood in the construction.

Another example of wooden construction is the improvised African savannah built at Riga Zoo – a home for animals that live in warm weather. Construction company “Tilts” and construction supervision specialists from “Būvuzraugi LV” have tried to ensure that the construction meets high quality standards. With innovative energy construction Latvia moves at the forefront of the Baltics and even Europe.

Solar energy system has been constructed in Salaspils for the cost of 7 million and energy will already be received from it in 2020. Client “Salaspils Siltums”, construction supervision was performed by “Firma L4”. Light is what makes the city shine at night, often even more expressively than during the day. “Neonita” specialists have considerable experience in this field, therefore many Riga facades have been supplemented with aesthetically delicate and eye-catching lighting solutions.

The reconstruction of Dobele Music School is a gift from the former resident of Dobele Aleksejs Kudrins and other sponsors, including the charity fund “Paaudze” of Pēteris Avens. Architectural tasks were solved by architect Mārtiņš Ošāns from MARK, but the project was led by Irina Biržina.

Neither in Riga, nor in the Baltics is it possible to find a new building with such an artistic element as the restored ceiling painting that decorates the entrance hall of the apartment building Club Central Residence II in Riga. The client is “Axi Invest”, but the restoration transfer has been implemented by Valdis Platais and Madara Rasiņa. The motto of the Krasta Quarter developed by “Bonava” is urban elegance with a view of the River Daugava. The previously degraded area is being transformed beyond recognition – it is becoming a safe and desirable place to live. The former engineering arsenal is located in the Daugavpils fortress, and the Municipality has decided that the western block of the building should be adapted to the functions of machinery exhibitions.

There is still a long way to go, but the first step has been taken – the project has been developed by “REM PRO”. Former industrial areas have become places, where new and fresh ideas are born. In the territory of the former confectionery factory in Riga, which is located between the quiet centre and Skanstes district, it is planned to create a modern public space in Riga – Sports 2 Quarter.

Everyone interested is welcome to visit the stands of the travelling exhibition – at mc2, 68a Krasta Street, Riga.
