10 trends in the tile world in 2020

Every year the employees of Reaton and mc2 travel to the world tile exhibition “Cersaie”, which takes place in Italy to learn about the latest trends in the world of tiles and to bring them to you – our customers.

“Cersaie” is the most important international event for interior designers, architects, traders, builders and anyone looking to renovate their home or office. Every year the exhibition is visited by more than 112 000 participants from all over the world.

The main direction in the ceramic design industry this year as well is a natural impression, and this trend is destined to remain. The inspiration for the new collections comes from materials created by nature, such as: natural stones, the most beautiful marble and elegant tree varieties.

This year marble design tiles have become brighter; more saturated marble is displayed, both in terms of colour and creating accents with strong patterns, veining and intensity. Sophisticated marble decoration techniques have been introduced – showcasing the relief textures.

The main trends of tiles for 2020:

  1. “TOTAL LOOK” – the general look, when all interior elements speak the same language. Walls and floors are not the only elements covered with one material or a specially matched colour combination. Tiles are conquering rooms to their full extent. They also decorate other surfaces, such as sinks, shower trays, shelves, table tops, and are even used as a tray in the kitchen, or when serving food, or as a tray for your daily coffee mug.
  2. Tropical drawings on ceramics – especially the large palm leaves, lianas, roses and other exotic flowers.
  3. Large thin tiles in the most optimal size: 120×278 cm – amazing surfaces with a realistic imitation of different materials.
  4. The colours in ceramics of the year – light blue, green and pink.
  5. New, largest size ceramic wall tiles: 80×160 cm – extensive 3D room decoration.
  6. Ceramic wallpapers – ultra thin – 3.5 mm, light and modern tiles for wall decoration. The ideal solution for wet rooms.
  7. Geometry – coloured, monochrome, matte and metalised surfaces.
  8. Mediterranean and French style – national drawings and patterns.
  9. Relief surface and 3D effect – still one of the topical trends of tiles.
  10. Combinations of matte and glossy surfaces – a combination of both surfaces and an interplay of light.
